Just Another Friday

I haven’t done one of these guys in awhile, but today felt like a good day to get back on the horse. The Boy and I are going shopping at a new architectural salvage shop, and then perhaps out for some bites to eat, using this handy local guide. My very dear friend Lorenza is coming to stay with us soon, so I’ve been trying to scout around the city in search of the best places to take her. Married life is pretty grand so far; I know this goony honeymoon stage won’t last forever, but I sure am enjoying it. Without wedding planning taking up all that space in my brain, I’ve had time to get back to writing every day, either here or on my own private projects, and that’s pretty excellent.

My one of my favorite authors on my favorite band, and of course he sums it up perfectly.

Curious ABCs!

Pin up remix.

Story quilts!

Sleeping with another person, AKA: night acrobatics. I relate to that top photo so much.

I actually spat something at my computer looking at these.

Dancers Among Us.

Nifty treehouse elevator.

And another fabulous tree home.

How well do you score? I did pretty well, but The Boy kicked my ass.

JGL makes me question the institution of marriage.

A compilation of teeny houses like mine!

I’m loving the idea of a whole wall of these busts. They have elephants and horses, too!

Friday Time!

Well hey there! Haven’t done one of these in awhile… The weekend is upon us, once again, and I’ve got some links to share with you fine folks. This weekend I’ll be shooting a short film and looking at LOTS of apartments. The Boy is just about done with school, and we’ll be moving into our new place in a few weeks. I’m very excited, because it’ll be our very first grown up home for just the two of us. Don’t get me wrong, I’ve loved all our roommates, but a quiet little home with a garden just for him and me is all I really want right now. A place where he can wake me up with fresh coffee, and I can make him breakfast, and we can stay in every single night like the senior citizen couple we secretly are. We’ve seen a few really promising places so far, and I have high hopes that this weekend we’ll seal the deal. Wish me luck! Until Monday…

Ok so this is the most amazing thing ever. I watched it three times. And if you haven’t seen the profile in the New Yorker, you need to check it out.

I just want JGL to sing to me always.

Whoa, South African wedding.

Speaking of weddings, The Boy and I are finally getting started with real planning! This venue is a real contender, and I just love this bride’s sweet write-up.

Is this one of those things that everyone else knew about already?

Love the new Tattly tool set.

Japanese manhole covers: who knew!?

This exhibit sounds fantastic.

And this one is coming to my hood soon!

Those black tongues!

Well this is just about the most heart-warming thing I’ve seen in awhile. Yes, better than the marmots.

Friday, Friday, Friday!!

Happy Friday, friends! I just returned to LA after a much needed trip back home. I went hiking in the woods, cooked a lot of great food, spent a ton of time with my family, rubbed a lot of dog ears, and smiled a lot of goofy smiles at The Boy. But I will say this: after two weeks back east, I was really glad to return to 70 degree weather.

Coolest birthday list ever.

Hey, sad turkey… and other greatness.

Such a fantastic idea, I’m calling my grandmother tonight!

The perfect extra touch for a handwritten letter.

Nice. Specs.

A light catcher is so much better than a wind chime.

Really sweet sharpie campaign.

An alternative way to write music.

Ethereal handmade rainbow

Search engine poetry makes me smile.

Happy Weekend, Kids!

Hey kids, happy weekend! Would have done more posting this week but honestly, life was just too wonderful. The Boy is in town and we’ve been really busy attending the first of two shows (with more to come tonight!) and eating the most ridiculous pancakes in the world (I had “A Time for Love”, it came with pumpkin pie filling scooped on top). I also finally broke down and started reading 100 Years of Solitude, which people have been telling me to do for years, and…. wow. I’m only twenty or so pages in, and I can’t remember the last time I was so excited about a book. So, as you can see, this has been an action packed week for me (book, boy, pancakes, dead), but I’ll be back with more posts next week! Enjoy yourselves, you guys. And hey, just ’cause I’m in that kind of mood, go out and kiss someone you like.

They’re getting the band back together!

Luscious, sorrowful, and totally free online: Sailor Twain or The Mermaid in the Hudson.

Pretty pumpkins! Oh, Martha, what would we do without you?

Where do you guys land on the artisanal mayonnaise question?

Magic lamps!

Eyes of the world.

JGL is kind of my neighbor.

Oh my god. This tumblr was clearly made for me. As a child, I used to carry around lists of my favorite words. I need to go waste four hours on this.

Make your own cocktails.

Haven’t been on Colossal in awhile, here’s just a handful of awesome things: 1, 2, 3, 4

Ephemera.

Happy Weekend!

Well, it’s that weekend time again, folks. I’m trying really hard to get back in the swing of writing regularly. It’s been slow. But I’m enjoying it. I’m taking my time with things, I am appreciating progress, I am finding my way. All of that sounds disturbingly like those creepy self-affirmation mantras, but nevertheless… Things are getting good. But the getting is slow. In other news, I’ve had a total falling out with Dawson’s Creek. I had myself convinced for a little while that it was at least a passable substitute, but I snapped the other day and let’s just say I’m thankful my computer survived in tact. This weekend I’ll be working, and putting off looming writing deadlines, and taking lots and lots of cold showers. Here are just a few things from around the web so enjoy yourselves, friends…

A very interesting (and not especially political) profile on a man we all think we know.

Pretty DIY house-shaped paper lanterns!

Braid crown tutorial.

Um. Diane von Furstenberg’s apartment.

Mindy Kaling = goddess.

Holy mother of wow this is a Zelda Fitzgerald cake!!!

Grilled peach and zucchini salad. Drooool.

I’m Back! Just in Time for Friday!

Hey folks, so things are finally starting to chill out around here. I said my final goodbyes at my old job, and I’ve been tutoring for a week. I can already absolutely say that this was the right move for me. To top it all off, The Boy’s in town. Everything is feeling right in the world: I’ve got this new amazing job, I’ve got my man by my side, and I just had the most amazing burger at this restaurant. Now that things have settled down, I think I’ll have time to post regularly again. But right now it’s the weekend, and all I want to do is make moony eyes and smile like a goon at a certain someone. Have fun, friends, and I’ll see you Monday!

Edward Gorey’s illustrated envelopes!

Drooling over this restored Spanish farmhouse.

Sophie Blackall’s “Missed Connections” illustrations are available as prints!! I want. I want. I want.

“Don’t worry about insects in general.” – F. Scott Fitzgerald

Sigh. Those Hovey sisters.

Do yourself a favor and check out the portfolios of Ransom & Mitchell. I especially love those surreal, elaborate portraits.

LOVE the Bona Drag “Ceremonial” (read: bridal) collection.

I had one of the most amazing dorm rooms in the world (it had a split level staircase and built in wardrobe) but this one is pretty lovely.

A Spaghetti Western! With PIE

I have no idea what this is but I see My Little Ponies and animal ears and what can I say but: YES.

This is a bunny chair and one day it will belong to me.

HP Wizarding Genetics. SHOCKED that this paper wasn’t written by a Sarah Lawrence student.

Beautiful Burning Man.

Happy weekend!

Happy Friday, Friends!

Wow, it’s time for the weekend again! Tonight I’ll be flying up to one of my absolute favorite cities to shoot a short film with some dear friends. I’m really excited to be back in San Francisco, to see some folks I adore, and to get back to acting for the first time since graduation (eep!!). The project looks like a ton of fun, and hopefully I’ll have something neat to share with you guys somewhere down the line. Hope you all enjoy your weekend, and until next week…

Really moving, rock on Eagle Scouts.

Oh my gosh I need the enthusiasm one! And for only 5$!!

Delightful space-themed DIY.

Three sweet tats courtesy of Pinterest: 1, 2, 3

Love these animations by Benjamin Lacombeand that video!

Oh please, oh please, oh please, someone build me one!

Bacon Habanero Infused Vodka. For your Bacon Bloody Mary, obviously.

I recently interviewed (successfully!) for an SAT tutor job. I had a really embarrassing panic attack during the math section.

A little long, but a must watch if, like me, you’re really into terrifying/wonderful surreal puppetry. AND WHO ISN’T???

Thank you, again, John Scalzi for calling it like it is. And for providing the only acceptable definition of the word “hipster”, which in my opinion has been grossly overused to the point where no one even knows what it means anymore.

Perfect pasta for your summer bounty.

Drunk Bill Murray is hilarious and talks about MOONRISE KINGDOM.

Is it Friday the 13th, Again!?

Happy Friday, folks! Is it seriously another Friday the 13th? Is it just me, or have we had a few of those this year already? I’m so happy this week is finally over, it seems like it’s dragged on forever and ever. That’s because in just 14 hours I’m flying out of Los Angeles and heading home. I’ve been practically bouncing up and down in my desk chair all week, and now the time has finally (almost) arrived.

It’s a strange thing, the concept of home. If you’d asked me only a few years ago, I’d have told you that I would never think of Connecticut as my home. But now, being out here, as much as I love California… I’ve been a little homesick. A lot of that is The Boy, surely. Edward Sharpe does not lie, home is, indeed, wherever I’m with him. But it’s also about summer. Summer in Connecticut is one of my most favorite things in the world. All that luscious green, the wild berries in the yard, the thunderstorms, hiking in the woods, and jumping on the trampoline. It’s the first summer I’ve had in a long time without all that stuff, and I won’t lie, I’m a little sad for that. But no longer! I’ll be home for a full week, and hopefully get my fix of my family, my dogs, and New England. And of course, The Boy. With all that wonderfulness going on, I’m not sure how much posting I’ll be doing, so you guys enjoy yourselves and I’ll catch you later!

Another perfectly Russian collection by Ulyana Sergeenko.

A love letter to Henri!

This chick makes 60$/hr to snuggle!?!?

Totally crushin’ on FIG & FAUNA, dreamy blog about good food and farm life. This is almost exactly how I imagine our life at the purple house. This is an especially sweet post.

Tattoo typos.

Lovely illustrations by Sterling Hundley.

Claire Pettibone’s Flagship is in Beverly Hills! I’m going to try on some of these babies once I get back. So far my favorites are: 1, 2, 3.

Bulldogs. Tetherball. Lulz.

Fanfaronade, ktenology, quockerwodger: The A-Z of Unusual Words.

Beautiful Waterfall House.

This is a bee hive that is shaped like a house. WOWZER.

As soon as the guy comes in with his bells, I get teary just thinking about the first 15 minutes of Up. Sigh. I can’t wait to be married.

Happy Weekend, Kids!

Oops, little late with this one but… happy weekend! Clearly I had hot plans for last night, what with all the yoga I did and movies I watched. Yee-haw, now that’s a hot  Friday night! Not going to party like that for awhile. But seriously, that’s my idea of a good time these days. This weekend I’ll be cleaning the apartment and maybe even going to the library! Geesh, I’ve turned into quite the spindly spinster without The Boy around. But hey, no guilt: I love cleaning my room, and I’m not afraid to admit it. Enjoy your weekend people, and go do something crazy!

Clever wine bottle knows me too well.

DIY floral sunglasses.

Some things I could do to remember in the woods.

This is a BBQ Pulled Pork Cupcake. Way more delicious than you might think, unless you’re me… and then it’s exactly as delicious as you might think.

So this sounds like it could be a story from my wedding. Except for the whole costume change thing, so tacky.

Ok, it’s official: I need this outside my house. Beware. Be very ware.

Dear lord. It’s a table, it’s a swing. Dinner parties will never be the same again.

This guy made a private pub in his backyard, for all his family and friends to enjoy. Now that’s the kind of bar I would patronize.

An invaluable lesson.

LIFE SIZE HOTWHEELS.

The lovely little story of a book and its bookmark.

Have a great weekend friends, top image found here.

Whaddaya Know, It’s Friday!

Well, I won’t lie, I’ve had kind of a miserable week. A combination of too much work, too much rent, too much traffic, and too little sleep. But it’s ok! It’s the weekend! I’ll be visiting with my grandparents and siblings in Newport Beach, so hopefully that means good free food + good free booze + a boat ride. And then next week is a short one! Have fun and relax people, and until next week…

I LOVE what this Brooklyn artist has done with her walls.

I love all these tiny clay figurine houses! Ohhh, especially these ornaments and necklaces. Can you imagine a Christmas tree decorated with nothing but those teeny little buildings and white twinkle lights? Sigh.

DIY fire starters! Now that’s some DIY I can get behind.

How to make bread on a campfire. One of the smartest things ever. EVER.

Such a neat idea!

S’MEACHES. God, that’s fun to say.

The loveliest little treehouse in NYC.

Fabulous beer packaging.

Wonderful Alaska travelogue. I’ve got the travel bug bad!

The Boy and I have talked about owning one of our many homes in Malibu one day, and I certainly wouldn’t say no to this Mediterranean-inspired villa.

Holy bananas, an egg cracked under water! Strangely mesmerizing.

Spiral cut your weiner for maximum caramelization: here’s how.

And a sweet giveaway by some very dear friends of mine. I’ve seen those krispie treats, and they shall be mine.
